The project I most enjoyed in this class was the custom house project. My dream is to design custom homes with full artistic freedom and that project represented my dream closely. Besides the minor setbacks of having to design to ADA compliance, it was a good opportunity to see how to form an artistic vision into a functional and efficient home. It was fun testing multiple designs, all of which were quite unique and hard to execute, to see which ones would be most realistically practical.
A close second of my favorite projects was the pocket park design. I loved this design because we were faced with a limited task and were forced to find a solution. It was a real life scenario and it proved to be good practice for critical thinking strategies. It was nice to be able to design using natural features instead structures for a change, and the fact that by this point i was already experienced at using AutoCAD made it much more exciting. I was able to take vision and turn it into a design smoothly and just how i desired.
In the future when i become a licensed architect, i will be designing and building custom homes much like our Nawic project. My dream is to design sustainable and environmentally focused homes in exotic countries. I wish to have freedom within this profession which will give me the ability to work wherever i desire.
I believe that for the short period of time we had for the Architecture section in this class that we achieved as much as we could have. We had to move at a slow pace since everything was foreign to me, this helped to develop a full and clear understanding of the programs. The projects that we did were just the ones that i would've loved to do had we not been assigned them. So everything worked out the way it should have and I am very pleased with all of the knowledge i gained in this class. I am very excited to further my study in the field of architecture.
